How Do I Hear God?

Biblical Anchor: The Shepherd — John 10:1–30

“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.” — John 10:27 NIV

You believe God speaks.

But what does that actually mean?

How does God communicate?

What are you listening for?

How do you recognize His voice?

And what happens when you’re praying, reading, waiting — and you’re still not sure?

Jesus describes His relationship with His sheep through something deeply personal:

They listen.

He knows them.

They follow.

Hearing God was never meant to become another spiritual performance.

It begins in relationship.

In September, we will explore:

• How God communicates through Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit

• Why hearing begins with relationship, not technique

• How to cultivate a posture of listening

• What Scripture teaches us about recognizing God’s voice

• What to do when you don’t hear anything

• How to listen without forcing or manufacturing a spiritual experience

We’ll also enter the story of Samuel in 1 Samuel 3 — a young man who heard a voice before he understood who was speaking.

Because sometimes the question isn’t simply:

“Is God speaking?”

Sometimes the question is:

“Am I learning to recognize Him?”

Come ready to slow down.

Come ready to open your Bible.

Come ready to ask the questions you may have been afraid to ask.

Come ready to listen.

Beyond the Noise

How Do I Know It’s You?

Biblical Anchor: Test Everything — 1 Thessalonians 5:19–22

You sensed something.

A thought keeps returning.

A door opened.

Someone said something that felt like confirmation.

And now you’re asking:

Was that God?

Or was it me?

Was it fear?

Was it desire?

Was it urgency?

Was it someone else’s voice becoming louder than His?

Because hearing is only part of the journey.

We also have to learn to discern.

In October, we will explore:

• How to test what we believe we’re hearing against Scripture

• Why knowing God’s character matters in discernment

• The difference between conviction, correction, and condemnation

• How our desires can influence what we think we hear

• The role of wise, mature counsel

• Why an open door, closed door, feeling, or coincidence is not automatically confirmation

• What to do when the most honest answer is, “I don’t know yet.”

We are not learning to chase signs.

We are learning to know God.

We don’t use impressions to make Scripture say what we want.

We use Scripture to discern what we think we’re hearing.

And when what God has made clear requires a response?

We follow.

What This Is — And What It Is Not

This is not a class on five steps to get God to speak.

This is not a night of chasing signs.

This is not a room where the woman with the most dramatic spiritual experience is considered the most mature.

And this is not a space where you have to pretend you’re certain when you’re not.

This is formation.

⇾ This is Scripture opened slowly — Bible in hand.

⇾ This is honest prayer.

⇾ This is stillness without pressure.

⇾ This is learning to notice without immediately labeling everything “God.”

⇾ This is testing what we believe we’re hearing against the Word.

⇾ This is obedience when something becomes clear.

⇾ And this is remaining with God when it doesn’t.

We are not gathering to become obsessed with hearing a voice.

We are gathering to become more familiar with the Shepherd.

This space is live and intentionally not recorded.

Why?

Because formation requires presence.

And presence requires participation.

Who This Is For

This is for the woman who:

• Loves God but still wonders, “How do I actually hear Him?”

• Has questioned whether something was God, herself, fear, or desire

• Is making decisions and wants to discern wisely

• Has prayed for direction and been met with what felt like silence

• Doesn’t want another formula — she wants deeper communion with God

You do not have to arrive knowing exactly what God is saying.

You do not have to arrive with an answer.

You do not have to perform certainty.

You only have to arrive available.

Speak, Lord. I’m listening.

This Is Formation.

September 23 + October 21 are not separate events.

They are one formation journey.

In September, we learn to LISTEN.

Then we take what we’ve learned beyond the room.

Beginning September 27, the Beyond the Noise Challenge: 21 Days of Listening, Discernment & Obedience gives us an opportunity to practice through Scripture, prayer, listening, reflection, discernment, and obedience.

Then we return in October — not merely with hypothetical questions, but with the questions that surfaced while we were actually practicing.

What did I notice?

What did I struggle to discern?

Where did fear get loud?

Where did my own desire influence me?

Where did obedience require something from me?

Where am I still unsure?

And we take those questions deeper into the Word.

September teaches us to listen.

The 21-day challenge gives us room to practice.

October takes us deeper into discernment.

The challenge is open to all women; SÄKRID attendance is not required to participate.

But together, these two SÄKRID nights create something intentional:

LISTEN.

DISCERN.

RESPOND.

REMAIN.
